Another primary tourist attraction of Srinagar is the Shalimar Bagh Mughal Garden. It was built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nurjahan. Jahangir and his wife regularly visited Kashmir, especially during summer. During Summer, It was used as the official residence and operated as the Royal Court of Emperor Jahangir. Later, Emperor Shahjahan ordered an extension of the garden.
There are three terraces in the garden. The first terrace is for the public called Dewan-a-aam, the second terrace was for noblemen and Royal guests and it has a canal, the third terrace is called Zenna Garden where the women used to live. The third terrace has a beautiful snowy mountain view behind Bara Dari- a tiny palace made of black marble.
